  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • Green food coloring (for effect) For a ghostly hue
  • Whole almonds (for fingernails) One per cookie
  • Red gel icing (optional, for blood effect) For decoration

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, blending until fully combined. If desired, add green food coloring.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. Gradually mix into the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  • Roll the dough into finger-like shapes, tapering one end and creating grooves for knuckles.
  • Press a whole almond at the tapered end of each finger to represent the fingernail.
  • Place the shaped cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Baking

  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until slightly golden.
  • Once cooled, use red gel icing to create a bloody effect around the nails if desired.

Notes

Chill the dough if too sticky. Customize by using chocolate-covered almonds or adding edible glitter for a magical touch.
