For the Sandwich

  • 8 slices slices of bread (white, whole-grain, or brioche)
  • 4 slices slices of deli turkey
  • 4 slices slices of deli ham
  • 4 slices slices of Swiss cheese
  • 4 tablespoons tablespoons of Dijon mustard Can substitute with honey mustard for a sweeter taste.
  • 2 large large eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract For additional flavor
  • to taste Sugar For dusting the finished sandwich
  • a pinch of salt
  • as needed Butter For frying

Instructions

Preparation

  • Spread Dijon mustard on four slices of bread. Layer turkey, ham, and Swiss cheese on top. Top with the remaining four slices of bread to create four sandwiches.

Mixing the Egg Batter

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until well combined.

Cooking the Sandwich

  • Melt a generous pat of butter in a skillet over medium heat until it's hot but not smoking.
  • Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, soaking each side for about 10 seconds.
  • Fry the sandwiches in the skillet until golden brown on each side, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Flatten them slightly with a spatula during cooking for an even golden exterior.
  • Once out of the skillet, dust generously with sugar and slice them in half. Serve warm.

Notes

Feel free to switch up the meats or make it vegetarian with grilled cheese and veggies. Batch cooking is also an option – just double or triple the ingredients!
