  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened Essential for richness

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease an 8-inch baking dish with butter or line it with parchment paper.

Mixing

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy for about 2-3 minutes.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until combined. If using, fold in the chocolate chips or nuts.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Cooling and Serving

  • Let the treat cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
  • Optional: Serve with whipped cream or a scoop of ice cream.
