Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer.

Cooking

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring frequently. Bring this mixture to a gentle boil and let it boil for about 3-4 minutes without stirring.
  • Pour the caramel mix evenly over the saltine crackers, ensuring every cracker gets a lovely coating.
  • Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mixture is bubbly and golden.
  • Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot caramel. Let them sit for a minute or two to melt, then spread the melted chocolate evenly with a spatula.
  • Sprinkle your choice of toppings over the melted chocolate before it sets.
  • Allow everything to cool at room temperature, then refrigerate for about an hour.
  • Once firm, break it into pieces and enjoy your Saltine Cracker Candy.

Notes

Patience is key when making the caramel; a proper boil will enhance its flavor and texture. Let kids choose toppings for a fun family activity. Enjoy in moderation!
