Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the orange cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Blend until the batter is smooth and creamy—about 2 minutes.

Baking

  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before turning them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Making the Frosting

  • In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy, about 2 minutes.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with heavy cream, orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract. Beat until fluffy and smooth.

Assembling the Cake

  • Place the first layer on your serving plate and spread a generous layer of frosting on top.
  • Add the second layer on top and frost the sides as well, decorating creatively as desired.
  • Garnish with orange slices and sprinkles if desired.

Notes

For the fluffiest cake, let your eggs come to room temperature before mixing. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
