Ingredients

Flatbread Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour plus extra for dusting
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Toppings

  • Fresh herbs (parsley, thyme, oregano) to taste
  • Your favorite hummus store-bought or homemade

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it gets frothy.
  • Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Combine until a dough forms.
  • On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it feels smooth and elastic.
  • Place your dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise until it doubles in size (about 1 hour).

Cooking

  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently and roll it out to your desired thickness (about 1/4 inch thick).
  • Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Cook each flatbread for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they’re golden brown and slightly crispy.
  • While it’s still warm, sprinkle fresh herbs all over the flatbread.

Serving

  • Serve your Mediterranean flatbread with your choice of hummus spread on top.

Notes

For extra crunch, you can toss the flatbreads in a touch of garlic powder before cooking. Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in a skillet for best results.
