For the Brownies

  • ½ cup 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted Make sure it's unsalted for better flavor.
  • 1 cup 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large 2 large eggs Must be at room temperature.
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 unit Zest of 1 lemon This is where the flavor kicks in!
  • cup ⅓ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 1-2 lemons) Fresh juice is recommended for best flavor.
  • 1 cup 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • optional Powdered sugar for dusting Highly encouraged for an elegant finish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined.
  • Add in the eggs, vanilla extract, lemon zest, and lemon juice, whisking until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  • Sift in the flour, salt, and baking powder, and gently fold until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.

Baking

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Finishing Touches

  • Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  • Dust with powdered sugar once cooled.

Notes

For best results, do not forget the lemon zest and consider adding white chocolate chips for extra richness. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
