Ingredients
Method
Preparation
- Heat oil in a large pot or deep fryer over medium heat, about 375°F.
Mixing the Dough
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, mix milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla.
- Stir the wet mixture into the dry mixture until a soft dough forms.
Shaping the Doughnuts
- Roll out the dough on a floured countertop to about 1/2 inch thick.
- Cut out doughnuts using a doughnut cutter or two round cookie cutters.
Frying
- Drop a few doughnuts at a time into the hot oil and fry for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden.
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a cooling rack lined with paper towels.
Finishing Touches
- Once cool, dust with powdered sugar, dip in chocolate glaze, or add sprinkles.
Notes
If you don't have a thermometer, use the classic method of dropping a small piece of dough into the oil. If it sizzles and floats, the oil is ready. Let the dough rest if it seems tough before rolling.
