Ingredients

For the fudge

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk Can substitute with 2% or evaporated milk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Use fresh for the best flavor
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter Can use margarine as a substitute
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts Optional for added texture

Instructions

Preparation

  • Line an 8-inch square pan with foil or parchment paper.
  • In a medium saucepan, mix together sugar, whole milk, unsweetened cocoa powder, and salt.

Cooking

  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat while stirring constantly.
  • Allow it to boil without stirring for about 4-5 minutes until it reaches a soft ball stage.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the butter and vanilla extract. Stir until combined.
  • If using nuts, fold them in. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and spread evenly.

Cooling

  • Allow the fudge to cool at room temperature. For best results, chill in the fridge for at least an hour before cutting into squares.

Notes

For best taste, use fresh ingredients and watch the boiling time carefully. Feel free to experiment with flavors like peppermint or peanut butter.
