  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced because garlic makes everything better!
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for that extra richness
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano a classic Italian touch
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil no pizza is complete without it
  • to taste salt and pepper season to perfection
  • a pinch red pepper flakes (optional) for those who like a bit of heat

Preparation

  • In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once it’s warm, toss in your minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until the garlic is just golden.
  • Pour in the crushed tomatoes, stirring well to incorporate.
  • Stir in the dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Let that bubbly goodness simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning as needed.
  • If desired, sprinkle in some red pepper flakes for added heat.
  • Once the sauce has thickened nicely, remove it from the heat and let it cool before using or storing.

Notes

This sauce can be made in advance and freezes beautifully. Perfect for pizza, pasta, or as a dipping sauce. Don't worry about lumps; it adds to the homemade charm.
