Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef You can substitute with ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 4 cups frozen hash browns
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Reserve half for layering.
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup Can substitute with cream of chicken soup.
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • to taste Salt and pepper Season to your preference.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the meat is browned. Add garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked beef and onion mixture with cream of mushroom soup, milk, and half of the cheddar cheese. Stir until well blended.
  • In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spread half of the frozen hash browns evenly.
  • Pour the beef mixture over the hash browns, then layer the remaining hash browns on top.
  • Sprinkle the rest of the cheddar cheese on top.

Baking

  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

Serving

  • Let it cool for a few minutes, then serve with a crisp side salad.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to three days. You can reheat them in the microwave or warm them back in the oven. For a twist, consider adding some vegetables like broccoli or bell peppers.
