Ingredients
  

Filling

  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey for a healthier option
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded cheese like cheddar or spicy pepper jack

Crust

  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts or homemade if feeling fancy
  • 1 large egg for egg wash

Serving Condiments

  • to taste sour cream or salsa for dipping

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Add taco seasoning and a splash of water, mixing well.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheese until melted.
  • Roll out the pie crust on a floured surface and cut out shapes.

Assembly

  • Spoon 1-2 tablespoons of the filling onto half of each pie crust shape.
  • Fold the crust over the filling and crimp the edges with a fork.
  • Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the pies.

Baking

  • Place the hand pies on a lined baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Let them cool slightly before serving with sour cream or salsa.

Notes

These hand pies can be made ahead of time and freeze uncooked. Swap in veggies or different proteins for variations.
