Mushroom Ingredients

  • 8 oz King oyster mushrooms Clean and slice into bite-sized pieces

Breading Ingredients

  • ½ cup All-purpose flour Can substitute with chickpea flour for gluten-free option
  • ¼ cup Cornstarch
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Pepper
  • ½ tsp Paprika Optional to add more spice!
  • ½ tsp Garlic powder

Frying

  • as needed Vegetable oil For frying, about 1 inch in depth

Preparation

  • Clean the king oyster mushrooms gently with a damp cloth and slice them into bite-sized pieces.

Breading

  • In a bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.

Frying

  • Heat enough vegetable oil in a deep pan to submerge the mushroom bites.
  • Drop a small bit of the flour mixture into the oil to test if it's ready; it should sizzle.
  • Coat the mushroom bites in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  • Fry the mushrooms in batches for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.

Serving

  • Remove fried mushrooms from the oil and drain on a paper-towel lined plate. Season with additional salt if desired.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

You can enhance the flavor with additional spices such as cayenne or dried herbs. For a lighter alternative, try baking at 400°F for 20 minutes.
