  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure the butter is at room temperature.
  • 3.5 cups powdered sugar Use for sweetness.
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder For rich chocolate flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds a hint of magic.
  • 2–4 tablespoons heavy cream Adjust for desired consistency.

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until it’s fluffy and smooth.
  • Gradually mix in the powdered sugar and cocoa powder at low speed until well blended.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract, then add 2 tablespoons of heavy cream and mix until smooth. Adjust with more cream if necessary.
  • Taste and add more cocoa powder if desired for extra chocolate flavor.
  • Pipe onto cupcakes or spread generously on cakes once the frosting is smooth.

Notes

Ensure butter is softened for best results and store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge, re-whipping before use.
