Ingredients

For the Choux Pastry

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs

For the Filling

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Topping

  • Chocolate ganache or melted chocolate for drizzling Optional for added flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a saucepan, combine the water and butter. Heat it over medium until boiling.
  • Remove from heat, and quickly stir in the flour and salt. Return the saucepan to low heat, stirring constantly for about 2-3 minutes until the mixture comes together.
  • Remove the pan from heat and let it cool slightly for about 5 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until smooth.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Using a piping bag, pipe out approximately 1.5-inch rounds onto the sheet, spaced about 2 inches apart.

Baking

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until puffed and golden. DO NOT open the oven door during baking.

Filling

  • While your puffs are baking, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  • Once the puffs are golden and cool, cut them in half. Fill them with the whipped cream using your piping bag or a spoon.
  • Drizzle with chocolate if desired.

Notes

Don’t worry if some puffs look lopsided; that's part of their charm! You can use store-bought whipped cream as a shortcut.
