Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 9 pieces lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef or sausage For a meatier flavor
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese Plus extra for topping
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 jar marinara sauce (24 oz)
  • 1 piece egg Acts as a binder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning For added flavor
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Fill a large pot with water, bring it to a boil, and add in the lasagna noodles. Cook them according to package instructions or until al dente. Once cooked, drain and rinse under cold water.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or sausage, seasoning with salt and pepper. Drain any excess fat and mix in the marinara sauce, allowing it to simmer for about 5 minutes.
  • In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, and a pinch of salt. Mix well until blended.

Layering and Baking

  • In a 9x13 inch baking dish, start with a layer of meat sauce, then add three noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, a third of the mozzarella, and a sprinkle of Parmesan. Repeat the layers, finishing with noodles, meat sauce, and a topping of mozzarella and Parmesan.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Rinse the noodles to avoid stickiness. You can swap mozzarella for provolone and add a layer of ricotta for extra creaminess. For a vegetarian option, substitute the meat with sautéed vegetables.
