Ingredients

For the Caramel Apples

  • 5 medium medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or your favorite variety)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by washing your apples thoroughly. Pat them dry and remove the stems. Insert wooden sticks or skewers into the tops of the apples for easy dipping.

Cooking

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar, butter, corn syrup, and vanilla extract. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil. Let it cook for about 5-7 minutes without stirring, or until the caramel reaches a golden-brown color.
  • Once the caramel is ready, carefully dip each apple into the hot caramel sauce, making sure to coat them evenly. Allow the excess caramel to drip off before placing the apples on a greased baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • If you like, sprinkle crushed nuts or colorful sprinkles on top while the caramel is still warm.
  • Let the caramel apples cool for about 30 minutes until the caramel hardens, then they’re ready to be enjoyed!

Notes

Don't rush the caramel: Ensure your sugar mixture reaches the right temperature to get that perfect gooey texture. You can use maple syrup or honey as substitutes for corn syrup, but this may alter the flavor and texture. Store leftovers in a cool, dry place or in the refrigerator; they’re best enjoyed fresh. Try different toppings like crushed cookies or shredded coconut for an added twist.
