Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk Can substitute with milk + vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Add-ins

  • 1 cup fresh blackberries (plus extra for garnish) Can substitute with other berries if desired

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
  • In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  • Gently fold in the fresh blackberries.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and let it bake for about 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Once baked, let your cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.

Notes

Consider topping with whipped cream or chocolate ganache. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature or refrigerate for longer freshness.
