Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prep a muffin tin by greasing it well with butter and flour.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir until mixed.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the flour mixture, stirring until just combined; there should still be a few lumps.
  • Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Brush with additional melted butter and sprinkle your filling evenly across the surface.
  • Roll the rectangle tightly from the long side to create a log, then cut it into 8 pieces.
  • Place each piece, standing upright, in the greased muffin tin.

Baking

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until they’re golden brown on top.
  • Allow them to cool for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Make Ahead: Prepare the dough the night before and refrigerate it overnight. Let it come to room temperature before rolling and filling. Experiment with different fillings such as apple-cinnamon, chocolate chips, or savory options like cheese and herbs. Keep the dough cool to maintain its layers.
