Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup cooked quinoa Prepare according to package instructions.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Use gluten-free breadcrumbs if preferred.
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese Optional.
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • as needed Olive oil for frying

Instructions

Preparation

  • If you haven't already cooked the quinoa, rinse it well and cook it according to package instructions. Once done, let it cool a bit before using it in the recipe.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked quinoa, breadcrumbs, cheese (if using), onion, garlic, egg, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together until well combined, ensuring all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  • With your hands, form the mixture into small patties, about the size of your palm. Aim for about 1/2 inch in thickness. If the mixture feels too wet, add more breadcrumbs.

Cooking

  • Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties to the pan in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd.
  • Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side or until they’re golden brown and crispy.
  • After cooking, transfer the patties to a paper towel-lined plate to soak up excess oil.

Serving

  • Serve them warm with a dipping sauce of your choice or alongside a fresh salad.

Notes

Baking Option: For a healthier version, bake the patties at 400°F for about 20 minutes, flipping halfway through. Experiment with spices for enhanced flavor. Prepare ahead and store in the refrigerator for up to three days.
