Method
Cooking the Sausage
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until it’s golden brown and cooked through. Remove and let cool.
Preparing the French Toast Mixture
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and optional sugar until smooth.
Soaking the Bread
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring they are nicely coated but not soggy.
Assembling the Rolls
- On one end of each slice of bread, place one sausage link and roll it up tightly. Secure if necessary.
Cooking the Rolls
- In the same skillet, add a bit of oil and lay the rolls seam-side down. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until browned and slightly crispy.
Serving
- Plate the rolls, drizzle with warm maple syrup, and sprinkle with extra cinnamon.
Notes
You can customize with nutmeg or orange zest. Leftover rolls can be frozen and reheated later.
