Ingredients

Churro Dough

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Use unsalted for better flavor control.
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon For rolling after frying.
  • as needed Oil For frying.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring it to a boil over medium heat.
  • Once boiling, stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball.
  • Remove the pan from heat and let the dough cool slightly. Once it's cool enough to handle, stir in the vanilla extract.

Cooking

  • Using a piping bag fitted with a star tip, fill the bag with the churro dough.
  • In a deep frying pan or pot, heat oil over medium-high heat.
  • Pipe strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting them to your desired length.
  • Fry them until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Remove churros from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
  • While they’re still warm, roll them in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon until coated.

Notes

Make sure your oil is hot enough before frying. A drop of dough should sizzle when it hits the oil. If the dough looks too wet, give it a few more minutes on the heat. Serve with melted chocolate or caramel sauce for dipping.
