Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 4 cups crispy rice cereal Ensure freshness for best texture.
  • 1 cup caramel sauce Store-bought or homemade.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Topping

  • 1 cup chocolate chips Milk or semi-sweet.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by greasing a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or lining it with parchment paper.
  • In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the granulated sugar and corn syrup, bringing it to a gentle boil. Keep stirring until well combined.
  • Remove the mixture from heat and stir in the crispy rice cereal until fully coated.
  • Spread half of the crispy mixture in the prepared baking dish, pressing it down gently.
  • Pour the caramel sauce over the first layer and spread it evenly.
  • Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the caramel. Optionally, pop the dish in the oven at 350°F for a few minutes to help the chips melt.
  • Add the remaining crispy mixture, pressing it down lightly.
  • Allow the bars to cool in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or until firm.
  • Once set, cut them into bars and serve.

Notes

Check the crispiness of your cereal, experiment with mix-ins like nuts or mini marshmallows, and don't rush the cooling process for the best texture.
