Ingredients

For the Doughnut Holes

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • as needed Vegetable oil for frying Ensure the oil is heated to 350°F (175°C).

For the Boston Cream Filling

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

For the Chocolate Glaze

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, and vanilla.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; lumps are perfectly fine!

Frying

  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot to about 350°F (175°C).
  • Use a small cookie scoop or your hands to form bite-sized balls from the dough.
  • Carefully drop them into the hot oil—fry in batches so they don’t crowd each other.
  • Cook for about 2-3 minutes, turning them until golden brown. Once done, transfer to paper towels to drain.

Making the Filling

  • In a saucepan, whisk together the heavy cream, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla over medium heat until it starts to thicken. It should coat the back of a spoon.
  • Once done, remove from heat and let it cool completely.

Preparing the Glaze

  • In a small bowl, melt the chocolate, butter, and corn syrup together in the microwave stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.

Assembling

  • Once your doughnut holes are cool, use a piping bag or a small pastry tip to fill them with the Boston cream filling.
  • Dip the tops in your chocolate glaze for that perfect finish!

Notes

Timing is everything! Keep an eye on your doughnut holes while frying; they can go from perfect to not-so-perfect quickly. If some aren’t perfectly round, they will still taste amazing! Dust them with powdered sugar for an extra touch.
