Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast that's one packet!
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk (around 110°F or 43°C)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted plus more for brushing
  • 1 whole egg, lightly beaten

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  • Pour in the warm milk and melted butter, followed by the beaten egg. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.

Kneading and Rising

  • On a lightly floured surface, turn out the dough. Knead for about 5 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise for about 15 minutes in a warm spot.

Shaping and Second Rise

  • After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
  • Roll each piece into a ball and place them in a greased baking dish. Cover with a cloth and let them rise for another 10 minutes.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Serving

  • Remove the rolls from the oven and brush with melted butter while they’re still warm.

Notes

These rolls are forgiving; you can use water instead of warm milk, and feel free to mix in herbs or garlic powder for added flavor.
