It is true that people tend to gain weight in winter.
A recent study found that adults’ waistlines are larger in winter than in summer. This may be because your body stores fat during the shorter, darker days. Moreover, according to our latest study53 percent of mothers reported gaining 4-10 kg last winter.
6 reasons why people gain weight in winter.
1. It’s cold!
People tend to miss out on their summer exercise routine, whether it’s walking, group exercise, or hitting the gym.
Don’t use the cooler weather as an excuse to not exercise. Energize your routine and liven it up with a few different exercises. Why not try boxing, HIIT, Pilates or our brand new body weight program.
Are you cleaning the house? Turn up the music or put on your headphones and spend 1o minutes dancing while checking the chores off your list, it will make the time pass and you can get your heart rate up at the same time.
2. Comfort food is warming
For whatever reason, we all tend to reach for thick, hearty foods in the cooler season. Probably because it’s warm and comforting.
Fortunately for us 28 Days of Winter Challenge you don’t have to miss out on foods that warm your soul, we’ve included everything from soups, pastas, meatloaf, burgers, apple crumble, hot chocolate and even cupcakes.
3. It’s evolutionary
Many animals hibernate in the winter, and according to researchers at the University of Exeter, we’re biologically wired to eat more in the colder months because historically food has been scarcer in winter. But fear not, if you are aware of it, you can be more aware of it.
Track what you eat on our website 28 Day Winter Weight Loss Challenge following our nutritionist created meal plans and calorie tracker in our app.
4. We sleep more
In winter we tend to sleep more, we go to bed earlier and wake up later. This may be because our body clocks normally associate dark mornings and evenings with night time.
5. We can feel overwhelmed
Seasonal affective disorder, or SAD, is a type of depression and is caused by a lack of sunlight. When people feel slightly depressed, they tend to eat more. Following a meal plan can help you avoid overeating and get you closer to your goals.
6. We hide under layers
