Rumors about the transfer of Tyler Adams begin to circulate in 2023. Currently sidelined through injury, his Leeds United team-mates may not be able to escape even with a win on the final day of the season.
It’s a fact of life, the EFL Championship is not as attractive as the Premier League. Where will the 2022 USA MVP play his soccer in the 2023/24 season?
Tyler Adams Transfer Rumors 2023
Stay at Leeds United.
There are a lot of caveats to this one. For most Leeds United fans, Tyler Adams is the team’s best player this season. He stood out as someone who took responsibility when results and performances did not meet the required standards. After his injury, the club only dropped in the league position.
It’s hard to imagine any future with the USMNT captain remaining under contract with the club if they move to the second tier of English football, as that doesn’t make for a successful career. Even if they retain their top-flight status, he may still have concerns about staying at Elland Road given how poorly his season has been managed. However, if they stay awake and enough assurances are given, then he can stay. If he does leave, there will be more criticism of Leeds’ top management, who will be letting go of one of their key assets.
Whether he leaves or stays, Leeds United’s summer transfer window could decide the future of the club.
Be a part of Newcastle United European Tour
Given Newcastle United’s large transfer budget, Eddie Howe has almost free reign on who he can bring in. The Magpies will need to adapt quickly to life not only at the top of the Premier League, but to compete with Europe’s elite in the UEFA Champions League. Enter, Tyler Adams.
Deployed primarily as a defensive midfielder for Leeds, the USMNT captain has shown that he can play on the right or even as a right back. This versatility will help Howe no end as he will have to mix up the pack to keep momentum and results consistent.
Newcastle are currently showing little interest in the transfer, but remain interested in Tyler Adams’ transfer talks in 2023.
Follow Arsenal’s childhood dream
Tyler Adams has long stated that when he grew up a football fan, Thierry Henry was his favorite. Although he already had the opportunity to interact with him during his youth career at the New York Red Bulls, he could relish the opportunity to emulate his hero at the Emirates.
Mikel Arteta was reportedly interested in signing the player last summer, but a collective decision was made to bring in Fabio Vieira instead. Given how well Adams has performed for a struggling Leeds side, the recruitment panel may want to revisit their original decision. If he could provide the star midfield and help them win the title, he would go down in history as one of the best American players of all time in the Premier League.
Improve US relations with the Rossoneri
Another of the rumors about the transfer of Tyler Adams in 2023 is that the American may end up in Milan. Italian football is rising in quality as Serie A teams fill every European cup final this season. While AC Milan may not be able to defend the title well in 2021/22, Adams’ midfield will complement the current roster.
Some die-hard Rossoneri supporters may be skeptical of another US signing given how poorly Sergino Dest settled in at the club during his season-long loan from Barcelona. Milan even allowed the player to go in the FIFA international window, which is not allowed to contact the US national team, because he was considered surplus to requirements.
Cross the Yorkshire-Lancashire divide
Even before Leeds United’s relegation was strangling the season, Manchester United emerged as admirers of Tyler Adams’ midfield prowess. However, no player should cross this divide without careful consideration. Eric Cantona and Rio Ferdinand know all too well the reaction from the Elland Road faithful when they moved to the Red Devils.
Tyler Adams was noticeably impressive at Old Trafford as he forced numerous players into mistakes in a 2-2 draw in the War of the Roses derby. If the American were to join Manchester United, he could easily challenge Fred for a place in central midfield, adding quality and numbers to the center of the park.
Back to the US. Or Germany?
This may sound unlikely, but players linked to a departing team can often compensate for leaving with a loan while the team tries their best to earn promotion. Given that Adams often states that family is very important to him, could he return to Major League Soccer? He would instantly become one of the best players in MLS right now and much more available to his loved ones. His former employers, the New York Red Bulls, could deal with a player like him again.
It’s easy to forget that Adams made over 100 appearances for RB Leipzig in Germany between 2019 and 2022. Do you think he has learned enough German to feel comfortable there? With plenty of experience in the Bundesliga, could he play for Leipzig again? Or Borussia Dortmund could open up, as all indications seem to point to Jude Bellingham leaving the club soon.
