Canary Speech, a maker of speech analysis software, is collaborating Microsoft will apply the tech giant’s AI technology to augment machine learning speech models in healthcare.
Canary offers voice biomarker technology that collects and analyzes data to determine if there are abnormalities in an individual’s speech. The company touts its technology as being able to detect mood, stress and energy levels prior to clinical examinations and before symptoms are noticed. It also says it could potentially improve telemedicine and remote medical services.
Through the partnership, Canary will be a co-selling partner for Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare and will leverage Microsoft’s AI to accelerate speech analytics technology to reduce healthcare costs, address mental health challenges and scale remote patient monitoring solutions.
The company will also use Microsoft Azure to extend its machine learning speech models to new customers, and Canary’s API platform has been integrated with Microsoft Teams.
“AI is helping to empower healthcare providers by automating tasks, transforming unstructured data into structured formats, gathering patient insights, and supporting clinicians in personalized patient care,” said Dr. David Ryu, global chief medical officer and vice president of healthcare at Microsoft, said in a statement.
“Canary Speech applies AI to make voice serve as a biometric that can help screen and monitor medical conditions. We are excited to work with Canary to help transform care through AI technology that can have a positive impact on health. industry and patient outcomes”.
THE BIGGER TREND
Microsoft has made waves in healthcare with its AI technology.
Last year, the tech giant acquired Nuance Communications, which provides AI and speech recognition software, is worth about $16 billion. He also made significant investments in OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, as well as GPT-4, its successor.
OpenAI revealed the latest iteration, GPT-4, in March. In the same month, Microsoft Nuance Communications announced Dragon Ambient eXperience Express, a new clinical documentation tool that uses the latest version of OpenAI’s artificial intelligence language model, GPT-4.
DAX Express compiles clinical notes in seconds from telehealth or in-person patient conversations. The product builds its DAX document product, which started in 2020
Microsoft is also using AI for speech recognition in other projects, including through coalitions with tech giants. Amazon, Meta, Apple and Google, as well as with non-profit partners.
The partners announced the partnership in October The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign will expand speech opportunities for people with disabilities through the Speech Accessibility Project, which will collect speech samples from individuals with different speech patterns to help train machine learning models to identify different speech patterns.
