Iran’s foreign ministry’s Thesman says Asadollah Asadi, an outspoken Iranian diplomat who was arrested in Europe on terror charges, has been released “after suffering five years in captivity.”
Asadi was arrested in Germany on June 30, 2018. Iran says his arrest was part of an Israeli plot “with some European security services acting as agents”.
Kanani described Asadi’s arrest as a “Zionist-American scenario of the Big Lie” aimed at creating a crisis in relations between Iran and Europe, adding that “the plot was hatched shortly after the unilateral withdrawal of the United States from the Iran nuclear deal.” The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Earlier, Omani sources said that Asadi’s release was made possible as a result of a prisoner exchange between Iran and Belgium brokered by Oman.
