1 – DOVEDAL AND THE SOUTHERN PEAK DISTRICT
The best place to stay in the Peak District for limestone gorges and riverside walks.
The Southern Peak District is a strip of rolling green hills separated by narrow sided valleys clothed in ancient woodland. The whole area is a quiet and beautiful place.
The feature is Dovedale, where the River Dove has cut a dramatic limestone canyon. A riverside walk along the babbling stream, crossing stepping stones as it meanders down the steep valley. For the best views, take the short trek up Thorpe Cloud.
Charming villages of the past are tucked into the folds of the landscape. It is the most impressive Tissington which has been neglected by the Tissington Hall Estate for over 400 years. Walk some (or all) of it. Tissington Lane13 miles of traffic-free track from Parsley Hall, through Tissington to Ashbourne.

3 – BUXTON AND WESTERN PEAK DISTRICT

The Peak District doesn’t really have many peaks, but in the western part the flat grassland gives way to rugged mountains and really rugged countryside.

5 – EDALE & THE DARK PEAK

The northern part of the Peak District is known as the Dark Peak. An area dominated by tall, barren and often overlooked grassland, it is a remote and desolate place.
Edal It is the highest village in the Peak District and a popular starting point for many hiking trails, including the Pennine Way, the UK’s longest national footpath.
